In February 2025, Asha-Jyothi proudly launched the first Healing Hands medical camp in
Sitapur, India, delivering free, high-quality healthcare to 573 patients in just one day. This
event marked the official launch of the Healing Hands initiative, a youth-led,
Asha-Jyothi-supported project aimed at providing free healthcare access to underserved rural
communities across India.

The Sitapur camp offered a wide range of services, including optical examinations, medical
counseling, and free medication distribution. Patients were seen by a dedicated team of local
doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and volunteers, many of whom traveled in from neighboring towns
to support the effort. Every patient received a personal consultation, and those with chronic
illnesses, infections, or vision concerns were treated or referred for appropriate follow-up care.
Free medications were dispensed on-site, ensuring immediate access to vital treatments.
The need for this kind of care was clear. Many of the patients who attended the camp had not
seen a doctor in years due to financial or geographic barriers. Some came with untreated
long-term conditions; others had never received an eye exam in their life. For many, this was the
first time they felt truly seen and cared for by a healthcare provider.

Healing Hands was founded by Manishka Sharma, Asha-Jyothi’s Fairfax/Loudoun Youth
Chapter Lead, as part of a broader vision to make healthcare more accessible and equitable for
India’s rural populations. What began as an idea rooted in compassion has now become a
structured, on-the-ground initiative that brings real impact to underserved communities.

This camp is just the beginning. Healing Hands plans to host additional free health clinics
throughout the year, expanding into new villages and deepening its services to include maternal
care, pediatric support, preventive screenings, and long-term patient follow-up. With continued
support from Asha-Jyothi and our growing network of medical volunteers, the initiative hopes to
reach thousands more in the coming months.

Asha-Jyothi extends its heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, volunteers, sponsors, and local
supporters who made this camp possible, as well as the Sitapur community for their warmth and
trust. Together, we are building a healthier future; one village at a time.
